ABOUT BAW
Brittany Anna Wittmeier
I’m Brittany Anna Wittmeier, a multidisciplinary artist, graphic designer, illustrator, UI designer, ARTivist and poet currently based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.
Art by BAW™ is my creative practice, where I bring together art, design and authentic storytelling. BAW is my nickname, based on my initials, and the signature I use on my artwork. It also carries a little playful energy from “BAW, BAW Black Sheep,” reflecting my tendency to question conventions and approach familiar ideas from an unexpected angle.
My work spans brand identities, graphic design, illustration, layouts, original artwork and commissioned pieces for businesses, organizations and individual clients.
I begin every project by listening carefully and understanding the audience, including what they need emotionally as well as functionally.
Through research, strategy and empathy, I look for ways to create thoughtful design solutions that connect with the intended audience while remaining aligned with the client’s vision.
I have an eye for clean, minimalist design that can adapt across luxury, corporate and diverse industries. Whether I’m working with illustration, layout or a combination of disciplines, I approach each project with care, intention and attention to detail. I genuinely enjoy the collaborative process of refining work with clients until it feels right.
My personal art explores beauty, softness and resilience, particularly the idea of finding beauty and strength through difficult experiences. I’m drawn to elegant visuals, fluid lines and thoughtful simplicity that help meaningful ideas connect with people.
Through my artivism, I explore coercive control, abuse, human trafficking, spiritual abuse, psychological harm, feminism, religious deconstruction, philosophy, faith, and the process of finding joy and humour through healing. My goal is to create work that helps viewers recognize difficult realities, approach survivors with greater understanding, and contribute to more compassionate and just communities.
I approach these subjects with great care and respect. Difficult stories do not always need to be made visually harsh in order to be taken seriously. My softer aesthetic allows me to translate complex truths into a more approachable and digestable visual form without diminishing their importance.
I graduated from CDI College’s Graphic Design Technology program, where I developed a strong foundation in design principles, visual communication, and creative problem-solving. At CDI, I also received intensive formal training in programs in the Adobe Creative Suite such as Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe XD and more. In my program I was also educated in digital marketing fundamentals and inbound marketing.
